Exit and portability

Definition

A formal right to exit is weak when exercising it requires resources unavailable to almost everyone. Meaningful exit includes portability, interoperable standards, and enough independent capacity that one provider cannot turn switching into a fiction.

Why it matters

Exit limits the blast radius of bad governance and creates competitive pressure for institutions to remain responsive. It also makes the Replication Test concrete in technical systems.
